Deutsch: Die beiden Figuren im Wappen, der Fuchs (vohe/ Füchsin) und der Strauß, symbolisieren in naiver Weise den Ortsnamen Vohenstrauß. Dieses Motiv zeigt schon das älteste, in der ersten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts entstandene Marktsiegel, das in Abdruck von 1365 bekannt ist. Mit dem Ortsnamen und der nicht defintiv zu klärenden Frage, wie der Strauß in das Wappen kam, hat sich die Heimatgeschichtsforschung ausführlich beschäftigt. Der Strauß als eisenfressender Vogel tritt jedenfalls in Legenden auf und kommt auch öfter in den Wappen von Gemeinden oder Familien vor, die mit der Eisenverarbeitung in Verbindung stehen. Dazu würde auch das Hufeisen im Schnabel des Vogels passen. Seit dem fünften Siegel von 1635 erscheinen Strauß und Fuchs meist auf flachem Boden stehend, ebenso in den Dienstsiegeln bis 1960 und im Schrifttum vor Hupp. Die heutige Tingierung ist seit 1857 (Siebmacher) üblich. Vohenstrauß wird erstmals zwischen 1269 und 1280 als Markt genannt. Von 1378 bis 1770 wird der Markt wiederholt als Stadt bezeichnet. Prinzregent Luitpold verlieh dem Markt 1912 die Bezeichnung Stadt. |
