Deutsch: Der Fisch, eine Äsche, ist ein (falsch) redendes Bild für den Ortsnamen, der silberne Wellenbalken steht für das Grundwort -bach. Für die drei Sterne gibt es verschiedene Deutungsansätze: Sie könnten eine symbolische Darstellung der drei durch den Bach getrennten Grundherrschaften sein (1557 dreyerley Obrigkeit) oder, weil sie früher fünfstrahlig waren, an die Grafschaft Störnstein erinnern. Die Jahreszahl 1553 auf dem ältesten bekannten Marktsiegel deutet auf eine gleichzeitige Wappenverleihung hin. Das Siegelbild wurde vor 1711 von den Freiherren von Herding, den Hofmarksinhabern, als Herzschild in ein gemehrtes Wappen übernommen und kam so in das Gerichtssiegel der Hofmark Windischeschenbach. Seit 1784 ist das Wappen allein in Siegelabdrucken nachweisbar. Windischeschenbach wurde 1952 zur Stadt erhoben. |
