Summary

Description
English: Diagram of a continuous operation cloud chamber. Alcohol (typically isopropanol) is evaporated by a heater in a duct in the upper part of the chamber. Vapour descents to the black refrigerated plate and saturates. Due to the temperature gradient a thin layer of oversaturated vapour is formed above the bottom plate. In this region, radiation particles can induce condensation and create cloud tracks.

This physics image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Diagram of a continuous operation cloud chamber.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
