English: Portrait of Elizabeth Cromwell (1598-1665), wife of Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658)} "The wife of Oliver Cromwell, to whom she was married at St Giles, Cripplegate, London, on 22 August 1620. Her father was Sir John Bourchier, a city magnate, prosperous fur-dealer and leather dresser. Elizabeth bore nine children, eight of whom survived infancy. She was satirised as ‘Protectoress Joan’ after the Restoration." [1] |
