Description A then-Col. Norman Schwarzkopf (second from left) consults with officers, including Lt. Col. Don Parman (far left), Lt. Col. Bill Wells (next to Schwarzkopt, and then-Capt. Raymond F. Rees (far right), during a training exercise known as "Brave Shield", in 1977, at the Marine Corps base in Twentynine Palms, Calif. At the time, Rees was the operations officer for the exercise, and captain of the Oregon National Guard’s 3rd Squadron, 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
