Description
English: A schematic overview showing the two possible double-strand-break repair mechanisms for DNA after cutting by a site-specific-nuclease such as CRISPR; either the DNA can be repaired by non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) to create random mutations (insertions or deletions, 'indels') at the cut site, or through homologous recombination (HR) with a modified repair template to insert specific edits (short or long sequences) at the cut site. NHEJ will lead to targeted mutagenesis, while HR will lead to Gene Targeting.
