Description Gen. John Crawford Vaughn, from The Digital Library of Georgia. Vaughn served in the Mexican American War, participated in the California Gold Rush, and served as a Confederate General in the Civil War. After the Civil War Vaughn moved his family to Thomas County, Georgia from 1865-1870. He later moved back to his home state of Tennessee and was elected to the state general assembly. He returned to southern Georgia in 1874 and he died and was buried in Greenwood, Georgia in 1875.
