Summary

Description
English: A venn diagram to show the relationship between some of the different types of genetic engineering (gene targeting, genome editing and genetic modification). Genome editing is characterised by making small edits to the genome at a specific location. Genetic modification usually describes the insertion of a transgene (gene from another species) into a random location within the genome. Gene-targeting is a specific biotechnological tool that can lead to small changes to the genome at a specific site (and hence considered as 'genome editing') or insertion of a transgene; and hence may be considered as equivalent to Genetic Modification.
