Description
English: Patriarchal cross at the entrance to monastery borough in Bad Hersfeld
Deutsch: Das Steinkreuz ist das Hersfelder Doppelkreuz (Patriarchenkreuz) aus hellem Sandstein mit roten Farbspuren. Es steht am stadtseitigen Eingang zum Stiftsbezirk, auf dem Linggplatz in Bad Hersfeld. Es ist 191 Zentimeter hoch, 57 Zentimeter breit und 14 Zentimeter dick. Aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach, war das Kreuz ein Grenzzeichen der Abtei und zeigte an, dass ab dieser Stelle der Immunitätsbezirk der Abtei begann. Außerdem wird in seiner Nähe die Linde vermutet, unter der das Hochgericht des Stiftes stattfand. Es besteht aus einem Sandstein, der seiner Zusammensetzung nach vermutlich vom Stoppelsberg stammt. Nach kunsthistorischen Kriterien wird das Kreuz in das 12. Jahrhundert datiert.
