Deutsch: Die Skizze veranschaulicht, wie ein Schäfermond seine Bahn von Partikel freiräumt und diese in zwei Planetenringen neu sortiert. Befinden sich Partikel vor oder hinter dem Hirtenmond auf seiner Bahn, so werden diese durch die Gravitationskraft entweder beschleunigt und dabei radial vom Hauptplaneten weggeschleudert, oder sie werden in ihrer Bahnbewegung abgebremst und fallen näher an den Hauptplaneten heran. Der Hirtenmond erschafft auf diese Weise zwei neue Ringe.
English: This images shows, how a shepherd moon clears his orbit of material and rearranges them in two planetary rings. If material is before or behind the shepherd moon, these particles get accelerated by the gravity of the shepherd moon. In case, the particle gets accelerated on it's movement around the planet, the particle reaches a higher orbit around the planet, because it has gained energy. In case, it is decelerated, the particle loses energy and falls to a lower orbit around the planet.
