DescriptionIllinois State Capitol (7167050199).jpg
The Illinois State Capitol in Springfield (1889). It has housed the executive and legislative branches of the state government since 1876. It is the tallest classic state capitol, exceeding the height of the U.S. Capitol. It was built in response to a boom in population in Illinois resulting from relocations after the Civil War. Today, it's the only place where you'll find more criminals in Illinois than the penitentiaries.
