Español: Óleo sobre Tela de Thomas Somerscales. Antes de la Campaña La escudra Chilena se encuentra fondeada en la Bahía de Valparaíso el 5 de abril de 1879. La Escuadra chilena en 1879 en Valparaíso. Antes de iniciarse la Guerra del Pacífico, la fuerza naval chilena se componía de las siguientes unidades: los blindados Cochraney Blanco Encalada, los más modernos y poderosos; la cañonera Magallanes y las corbetas de madera O’Higgins y Chacabuco. Otras unidades de menor poderío eran las corbetas Abtaoy Esmeralday la cañonera Covadonga.
English: The Chilean squadron in 1879 in Valparaíso. Before the start of the Pacific War, the Chilean naval force was made up of the following units: the armoured Cochrane, Blanco Encalada, the most modern and powerful; the Magallanes gunboat and the wooden corvettes O'Higgins and Chacabuco. Other less powerful units were the Abtaoy Esmerald corvettes and the Covadonga gunboat.
