| Inscription | Lalawigan ng Pampanga Pinanahanan ng mga Indo–Malayo ang dakong itaas na pampang, ang pook ay ginalugad ng mga paring Agustino noong 1571. Naging encomienda noong 1576. Dahil pinakamaunlad, pinakamaganda at pinakamasagana, ito ay naging tagatustos ng bigas noong panahon ng Kastila. Nag-alsa laban sa pagmamamlupit ng mga Kastila, minsan noong ika-16 na dantaon at tatlong ulit noong ika-17 dantaon. Ang mga Pampango ay pinangunahan ni Francisco Maniago sa isang nasasandatahang pag-aalsa laban sa sapilitang paggawa at labis-labis na pagpataw ng buwis. Isinalin ang 8 bayan nito sa Bataan, 5 sa Nuweba Esiha at 4 sa Tarlak (na ibinalik pagkaraan). Ang Bakolor ay naging kabisera ng Pilipinas sa ilalim ng Espanya noong 1762–64. Noong panahon ng Amerikano, ang unang pamahalaang sibil ay itinatag sa lalawigan na binubuo ng 22 bayan noong Pebrero 13, 1901. Ang San Fernando ay naging kabisera noong 1904. Masidhing pakikipaglaban ng mga Pampango sa Hapon ang naranasan noong Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig. Ang pinakamalaking himpilan ng Hukbong Panghimpapawid ng Amerika sa Asya ay matatapuan sa Lungsod ng Angeles. |
