Description
Head turned to the right. Wearing rich clothes, embroidered with gold stitching. Around her neck and her head she wears expensive jewelry. Possibly the jewelry that she's received as a gift when she married Philip of Hohenlohe. The face is accurate and corresponds to the only other known portrait of her, which is located in the orphanage at Buren.

Date according to Museum Prinsenhof, Delft (verbal communication July 1996); Jonckheere 2007, who accepts the identification of the sitter as Maria van Oranje-Nassau, proposes a date of c. 1579, when Maria was 22-23 years old. The woman in the painting looks much older. [1]
