Alchemy is personified on this title page as a woman, with the sun and moon on either side, titled "Alchymya". She is surrounded by alchemical apparatus, and holds a flask and a measure. In addition to the more conventional applications from distilling, alchemy introduced new medicines, like the violent purgative antimony and a drinkable extract of gold called
aurum potabile.
