Description

The official dedication ceremony for the Trans-Canada Highway also marked the opening of "the gap" between Sault Ste. Marie and Nipigon. It was held near Wawa on September 17, 1960. (source: Shragge, From Footpaths to Freeways (1982) p. 86)
