தமிழ்: ஆயிரக்கணக்கான ஆண்டுகளாக ஒவ்வொரு பங்குனித் திங்களும் வழிவழியாக சென்னையை ஒட்டிய கடற்கரையில் ஒன்றாக முட்டையிட்டுக் குஞ்சு (பார்ப்பு) பொரிக்கும் பங்குனி ஆமைகள் (Lepidochelys Olivacea) இப்போது மனிதர்களால் பல அச்சுறுத்தல்களுக்கு உள்ளாகின்றன. பல பத்தாண்டுகளாகச் சில தன்னார்வலர்கள் (இங்கு http://sstcn.org/) இவற்றைக் காக்கும் நடவடிக்கைகளில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர். ஒவ்வொரு பங்குனியிலும் இரவில் விழித்திருந்து ஆமை முட்டைகளைச் சேகரித்து, அவற்றைப் பொரிக்கும் வரை காத்து, அன்றாடம் பொரியும் பார்ப்புகளைக் கடலருகே விட்டு விடுவர். கடலில் விழுந்து எதிரொளிக்கும் நிலவொலியை நோக்கிச் செல்லும் இயல்பினால் உந்தப்பட்டு இவை கடலை அடைகின்றன. English: Olive Ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys Olivacea) that nest in the Coromandel coast every year for centuries over generations in a mass nesting act called arribada are increasingly threatened by human activities. A group of volunteers (http://sstcn.org/ in this instance) undertake a daunting routine of night walks collecting eggs, hatching them, and releasing them into the sea safely every day of the nesting season for decades now.
