Summary

Description
English: A Spring bud of Paeonia ludlowii, viewed laterally, showing some elongation as it begins to unfurl. Note bulge of previous season’s leaf scars, above which gaping bud scales and developing flowering shoot. Re. shoot, note development of young leaves, tinged coppery pink, their petioles lengthening, but their delicate, feathery and rather claw-like blades still tightly furled. Re. leaf blades, note that they form a clump around a young flower bud, which is parting them to peep out. The elongate, slender tips of the sepals of the flower bud are protruding a little beyond the clump of leaf blades.
