Parlamento de Negrete (1793); junta diplómática de la que emanó un tratado entre las autoridades coloniales españolas de Chile y los principales líderes del pueblo mapuche. La reunión se llevó a afecto del 4 al 7 de marzo de 1793, al borde del Río Biobío, en el vado fronterizo de Negrete, por iniciativa del capitán general y presidente de la Real Audiencia de Chile, entonces llamado Ambrosio Higgins, pero más conocido por la posterior aristocratización de su apellido a O'Higgins. Es considerado habitualmente como el más suntuoso, caro y solemne parlamento diplomático realizado en la frontera chilena del Imperio Español. Publicada por el botánico y naturalista francés Claudio Gay en la página 35 de su Atlas de la historia física y política de Chile, y basada supuestamente en un dibujo del pintor y escultor Ignacio Andia y Varela (1757–1822), parte de la comitiva española que participó en dicho parlamento. Versión coloreada con errores, pues aparece la bandera de Chile, siendo que aún era una colonia de España. |
