Summary

Description
English: 1 - Very silicious schist. 2 - Marble. 3 - Limestone and dolomite. 4 (& inset) - "Barégiennes" (thin, deformed, alternating calcareous/siliceous beds; the term "barrégienne" originates from Barèges, a commune in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in southwestern France, where this type of limestone was first described and identified).

All the beds shown in this image are metamorphosed sediments of the Canaveilles formation, and date from about 580 Ma. Canaveilles formation beds appear at the surface over a large part of the eastern Pyrenees in France, and are described as "the oldest rocks of the Pyrenees".
