Summary

Description
English: In the photoxidation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) a type II Norrish reaction gives rise to a vinyl alcohol ester. Hydrolysis and tautomerisation of this gives acetaldehyde, which can leach out of the plastic and effect the taste of bottled water.
