Summary

Description

Priory of the former convent of Our Lady at-Hove in Waarschoot, popularly called the "Rat's Castle" as it is known in a Nero-cartoon by Marc Sleen.

The monastery was built in the 15th century by the Cistercian order. It was destroyed several times, so the order departed for Ghent. The priory with stepped gable was rebuilt in 1650 after the demolition of the actual monastery. Since 1995 the building is protected. Between 2004 and 2010 it was completely restored.
