Description The Nob Hill area of San Francisco, looking east from the Presidio of San Francisco. The Presidio was the oldest military post in continuous service in the U.S., until it was closed in 1994. It was founded by the Spanish army and served the Mexican army, before the U.S. took it over in 1847. Army officers' houses are in the foreground.
