Summary
| Description |
English: A spiny dogfish pup with yolk. During the gestational period a dog fish pup will hatch from a very thin shelled egg and remain in the oviduct of the female for many more months, the longest gestational period of all vertebrates which is 22 to 24mos. Each dogfish
embryo has an external egg sac attached to its abdomen to serve as a food resource throughout the remaining gestational period (up to 24 months). Quickly following birth the dogfish pups will form large schools, and will stay at the surface of the water this allows them to feed on plankton and jellyfish. As adults they move to deeper waters. |
