This is one of a series of photos taken the weekend I graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in 1977. If you want to learn more about the building, called University Hall, go to Northwestern's Web site: <a href="http://aquavite.northwestern.edu/maps/buildinglookup.cgi?lookupid=120" rel="noreferrer nofollow">aquavite.northwestern.edu/maps/buildinglookup.cgi?lookupi...</a> I attended Northwestern University from 1973 to 1977, earning a B.A. in Anthropology in 1977. What I liked about Northwestern: > Tuition, room and board were still reasonable in the mid- to late 70s. > The Archaeology Department was at the cutting edge of The Next Big Thing in archaeology, called "The New Archeology." I spent two summers as a student archaeologist at the Northwestern University Archaeological Program at Kampsville, Illinois. > The school maintained a sane perspective about varsity sports, especially the two that are like crack for many other midwestern universities and their alumni, football and basketball. I don't give a rat's ass about sports, and I haven't the slightest interest in Northwestern's Big Ten standing. What I care deeply about is the state of scholarship and education at the university. Sure, it would have been nice to have winning teams, but thank god the Athletic Department wasn't allowed to build an empire within the University with its football and basketball teams. > I had the satisfaction of knowing I was going to a "good school," one that usually placed in or near the top ten in the nation. |
