Deutsch: Das Wappen ist von einem Ortszeichen aus dem Jahr 1755 abgeleitet, das auf der Fassade der Pfarrkirche überliefert ist. Die Krone und der Großbuchstabe W weisen auf den früheren Ortsnamen Kunigiswalstad oder auch Walstad regis hin. Großwallstadt liegt an der Stelle eines römischen Gutshofes und führt seit karolingischer Zeit den Ortsnamen Walstadt regis. Die Unterscheidung von dem gleichnamigen Ort auf dem anderen Mainufer, Walstad episcopi (Kleinwallstadt oder Bischofwallstadt), erfolgte nach dem Besitzer, hier der Erzbischof von Mainz, sowie nach der Größe der Ansiedlung. Die Farben Silber und Rot verweisen auf die einstige Landesherrschaft des Kurstaates Mainz. |
