Object history Schon das aus dem späten 14. Jahrhundert stammende und in Abdrucken seit 1409 überlieferte Marktsiegel zeigt im Schild einen Blätterbusch, das zweite, seit 1438 nachweisbare einen Strauß mit Stiel, das dritte Siegel aus dem 16. Jahrhundert (erstmals 1574) einen Strauß mit zweimal zusammengebundenen Stielen. Erst seit 1637 wird der Laubbaum im Siegelbild verwendet, später kam noch statt der Wurzeln der Boden hinzu. Das ursprüngliche Siegelbild, der Blätterbusch, redet für den Ortsnamen, der früher �Kosting� geschrieben wurde; mit �Kosten� wurde ein Baumwipfel oder Blätterbusch bezeichnet. Im 19. Jahrhundert variierten die Darstellungen des Baumes zwischen Kastanienbaum (von �Kästen�/Kastanien) und Apfelbaum. Kötzting wurde 1953 zur Stadt erhoben und heißt seit 10.12.2005 Bad Kötzting.
