Български: Бял щъркел (Ciconia ciconia)
Вид едра птица, представител на семейство Щъркелови (Ciconiidae), разред Щъркелоподобни (Ciconiiformes). Гнезди и отглежда потомството си в Европа (включително и България), Северна Африка, Близкия изток и Централна Азия. Извършва сезонна миграция в Субсахарска Африка, Западна Индия и по-рядко в южните части на Арабския полуостров. Видът е синантропен и гнезди в селища или в непосредствена близост до тях. Представителите на европейския подвид извършват ежегодни миграции към Африка и обратно. Птиците се събират на ята които често достигат до 20 000 индивида, придвижват се поединично или на малки групи като се включват в ятата на пеликани, черни щъркели или грабливи птици.
