Frederick Brownell
Frederick Gordon Brownell (8 March 1940 – 10 May 2019) was a South African herald, vexillologist and genealogist. He is best known for designing the flags of Namibia and South Africa. He also designed many coats of arms. He served as the Herald of South Africa from 1982 to 2002. He was a founding member of the Southern African Vexillological Association (SAVA). He was born in Bethlehem, Free State.
Brownell died of cancer on 10 May 2019 in Pretoria, Gauteng. He was 79.[1]
