Hikimayu was a Japanese tradition of removing the eyebrows and painting two smudges on the forehead from Nara period to 19th century.
In culture
- Hikimayu is found in The Tale of Genji and The Pillow Book.
- Japanese movie director Akira Kurosawa showed this tradition in his films Rashomon, Ugetsu.
