Kharun was born in Montreal to his mother and father who were both Cirque du Soleil performers.[1]

Kharun would first compete professionally for the Canadian national team at the 2022 World Short Course championships. At the event, he would win a silver medal in the 100 m butterfly event and a bronze medal in the 4×50 m mixed medley event with his partners Kylie Masse, Javier Acevedo, Maggie Mac Neil, Ingrid Wilm, and Rebecca Smith.[2][3]

Kharun made his Olympics debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics. At the games, he competed in the 200 m butterfly event and he would go on to win the bronze medal. This was the first time a Canadian man had medaled in the 200-metre butterfly event.[4] He would also compete in the 100 m event and win another bronze medal.[5]
