An image macro, also known as a top-text-bottom-text meme, is a meme with upper-case text on the top and bottom. Image macros became more popular in the 2000s, with many memes being spread on meme websites, and Image boards like 4chan and other internet forums.^[1]

Image macros are the most common type of meme, with many formats being variations on the text on picture format.
