Ipanema
Ipanema (Portuguese pronunciation: [ipaˈnẽmɐ]) is a neighbourhood in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between Leblon and Arpoador. The beach at Ipanema became well known as the subject of the bossa nova jazz song, "The Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema").
The name Ipanema originally was named after a river in the state of São Paulo. The name comes from the Tupi language words ipá (pond) and nem-a (stinking).[1]
