She is the daughter of Audrey Ruth (Meyer) and Forrest Mars, Sr., and the heir of the American candy company Mars, Incorporated.

Mars was raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Her brother, John Franklyn Mars, is also a billionaire.
