James McCarthy

Professor James McCarthy enroute to the North Pole

James J. McCarthy (January 25, 1944 – December 11, 2019) was an American oceanographer and environmentalist. He was a Professor of Biological Oceanography at Harvard and was President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science from February 2008 to February 2009.[1][2]

He was on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School Center for Health and the Global Environment.[3] He was born in Sweet Home, Oregon.

McCarthy died on December 11, 2019 at the age of 75.[4]
