James Whistler
James Abbott McNeill Whistler (/ˈwɪslər/; July 11, 1834 – July 17, 1903) was an American painter, most famous for a portrait of his mother. [1] He was also known for using musical terms in naming his paintings. Some examples of these are his "Symphony and Harmony" and his painting collections called "nocturnes".[2]

Whistler was also an outspoken advocate of Japanese calligraphy.[2]
