Junko Tabei

Junko Tabei (田部井 淳子, Tabei Junko, 22 September 1939 – 20 October 2016) was a Japanese mountaineer. She was the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She completed her climb of Mount Everest in 1975. [1] She was also the first woman to climb all Seven Summits by climbing the highest peak on every continent. She was born in Miharu, Fukushima.[2]

Tabei died of peritoneal cancer on 20 October 2016 in Kawagoe, Saitama. She was 77.[3]
