Juwayriya bint al-Harith


Juwayriyah bint al-Harith was a wife of the Prophet Muhammad and a mother of the believers. Here's what we know about her:

  • Early Life and Capture*

Juwayriyah was born around 608 CE in Yathrib, Hejaz, Arabia. Her father, Al-Harith ibn Abi Dirar, was the chief of the Banu Mustaliq tribe. She was captured during the Battle of Banu Mustaliq in 627 CE and initially given to Thabit ibn Qais as a slave.

  • Marriage to the Prophet*

Juwayriyah approached the Prophet Muhammad to negotiate her freedom, and he offered to marry her instead. After their marriage, the Prophet freed her, and her tribe members, who had been taken captive, were also released. This act of kindness led to many members of her tribe embracing Islam ¹ ².

Juwayriyah passed away around 676 CE in Medina, at the age of 65. She was buried in Jannat al-Baqi, alongside other wives of the Prophet Muhammad. Her marriage to the Prophet was a significant event that brought peace and prosperity to her tribe, and her legacy continues to inspire Muslims today ².
