Kesavananda Bharati

Shri Kesavananda Bharati (9 December 1940 – 6 September 2020) was an Indian civil rights activist. He was the chief Pontiff of Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya Thotakacharya Samsthanam, Edneer Mutt.[1][2]

He was the petitioner of a landmark case that helped create the basic structure doctrine of the Indian Constitution which allow that the fundamental or 'basic structure' of the Indian Constitution can not be altered by parliamentary amendment.[3][4]

Bharati died at a hospital in Mangalore on 6 September 2020 from cardiopulmonary arrest, aged 79.[5]
