January 2007

  • Stephen Colbert asked his fans to vandalise pages, especially Reality, with "___ is a commodity". I fully protected Reality to stop the immediate onslaught we had after the show aired, but some fans may still be lingering about. En:WP just went to DEFCON 1 for about 10 minutes earlier. PullToOpenTalk 05:31, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
    • I locked his page as well to prevent new users/IPs from going there next. -- Creol(talk) 07:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
    • I'm rather amused by this, haha. Any video proof?-- Tdxiang 10:30, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
    • We do. Here it is. PullToOpenTalk 02:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
  • We are getting a lot of vandalism from a collection of IP addresses used by a school. Addresses 62.171.194.4 - 62.171.194.13 and 62.171.194.36 - 62.171.194.45 are being used steadily for vandalism only. These addresses are indefinately blocked on en.wiki already due to repeat vandalism. I have tagged all of the talk pages in the range with a warning version of en.wiki's block notice on the address blocks. -- Creol(talk) 15:03, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Is anyone else receiving emails containing random rubbish from User:ChristineJansson? It's sent me 4 emails now, I think it could be a spambot or something. Archer7 - talk 11:03, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I haven't recieved anything. How often are the emails coming? PullToOpenTalk 21:41, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
One came Christmas day, no response when I emailed back asking for a clarification of what they wanted my help with. Then I got two on the 22nd, half an hour apart. They're all just filled with rubbish randomly extracted from wiki pages. I think it could be a bot using the Emailuser function to get you to reply. When you reply, your email address is revealed. Blocking it wouldn't do anything, it could still email users. I could of course be completely wrong on that though. Archer7 - talk 09:34, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Just a reminder, administrators should remember to uncheck the "block account creation" box when blocking users for inappropriate usernames. PullToOpenTalk 05:52, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

December 2006

  • User:Bobo now unblocked, CheckUser shows that user is not a Kimberly Ashton sockpuppet. CheckUser did detect a vandal sockpuppet on the IP, whcih stopped after two warnings. Despite this, I think it's fine to unblock, the user seems perfectly harmless. Archer7 - talk 19:34, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
    • We have found sockpuppets of Kimberly Ashton operating on 71.231.130.56. (Dear users, let me explain why I blocked these users: If you look closely, all these socks give large amounts of personal information. They then create another sock to vandalise, only to revert vandalism with the main sockpuppet. This modus operandi was seen in cases like AbbyItalia and Bobo and Anita and Kimberly Ashton. As such, the IP that these socks operate on was found to be static and has been blocked for six months.) Any queries can be directed to Archer7 or me, Tdxiang. Thanks.-- Tdxiang 03:28, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Kimberly Ashton will probably be back at some point. Keep on the lookout for a similar modus operandi. PullToOpenTalk 19:37, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
        • No way it will be, unless the vandal uses an open proxy. I blocked the IP for six months.-- Tdxiang 10:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Apologised to Bobo. But one thng: How did AbbyItalia know everything that Bobo did, including sockpuppetery?-- Tdxiang 05:46, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Definitely an interesting question. Also of interest would be the timing of the latest incident. Bobo gets unblocked and returns. A couple hours after the first edits, the "You are Kimberly Ashton" (YaKA ? ) vandal starts attacking pages Bobo edited. Bobo and the Yaka vandal get into a minor edit skirmish. Yaka gets banned and Bobo stops editing at the same time. Highly coincidental timing there. Could just be weird luck; it is certainly not sockpuppetting (apparently checkuser shows separate IP's), but the possibility of meatpuppetting is is still there. -- Creol(talk) 07:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Some one please block User:SorryBianaDuapyLives? --71.231.130.56 04:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Could an another administrator please merge the histories of User:Vandalism with User:Creol? I don't know how to do it myself. PullToOpen. Talk 02:07, 16 December 2006 (UTC) Never mind. Thanks to M7 for sorting out the history. PullToOpen Talk 02:17, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
  • user:Archaeopteryx/user:Elmo12456 is the creator of many new articles on the Simple English Wikipedia, including many edits to dinosaur articles. Prior to editing here, Elmo worked on en.wikipedia. Unfortunately, after many warnings over a half a year period, I made the tough decision to indefinitely block this user, based on the poor quality of hundreds of his edits, such as this. He is now editing here, and some edits appear questionable. If the patient folks here at Simple English want to work with trying to improve this user's edits, so be it, but I felt I should at least alert folks here to potential problems. Firsfron 09:44, 14 December 2006 (UTC) (Admin:Firsfron on en.Wikipedia)

Thanks for nominating me.I accept to be one. --ﺵ¤ΑΒΓΕΖΗΘΙΚΛΜΝΞΟΠΡΣΤΥΦΧΨΩΩΩ 18:03, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Just wikified or cleaned up 59 seperate stub articles of his due to this warning. -- Creol 13:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Firsfron 19:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Various users are adding hoaxes that have to do with "Litecoveria". Users and Administrators alike should keep a sharp eye for hoax articles like these. We might have our very own strain of the "North Carolina" vandal. PullToOpen Talk 03:34, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Litecoveria? I saw this name on the Code WIKI. And apparently he is also "Captain Weirdo", "Jerry Hafton", "Fillmore", and the guy who posts "DO BRIEFS STINK?". His range appears to be 4.136.0.0/16. Raffaello9 23:27, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Could an administrator edit MediaWiki:Undo-summary so it's similar to en:MediaWiki:Undo-summary, with the piped links? Thanks. J Di 20:49, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
I made it similar, but looks like that was the default text anyway (It's a new Mediawiki) Blockinblox - talk 21:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
It looks the same here as it did when I created the page on English Wikipedia. I had to put the pipes in myself. J Di 22:18, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
  • All admins are reminded to check their email regularly, especially if blocking users. Archer7 - talk 14:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Could an administrator move Tourette's syndrome to Tourette syndrome and merge the histories so that the article has the same title as on en.wp? Thanks. J Di 13:00, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Sorted by Blockinblox. Archer7 - talk 16:05, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I've CheckUsered from admins request. I'll tell you the answer. User:Kimberly Ashton and User:AbbyItalia share an IP, but one of them have too few post in the log, so it is possible they are same person, but not enough as I think from the answer. thanks --Suisui 04:38, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

November 2006

  • Members of the massively popular 'General Mayhem' forum are now attempting to post their article on as many projects as possible. Article has been deleted and protected, but I'd expect a lot of vandalism in the next few days. I would advise immediate blocking of IPs for 24 hours, no warnings. Archer7 - talk 18:00, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
  • How about adding a link to Simple talk on the sidebar? I asked a while back (twice), but no one noticed. I guess I should've asked in the right place: here. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 19:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
  • End of bureaucrat voting: Netoholic loses sysop and bureaucrat privileges, Archer7 and Blockinblox as new bureaucrats. Archer7 - talk 11:32, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Looking at the admin votes archive, it seems Eptalon's adminship in March was supported by everyone except Freshstart, who later changed his vote from neutral to oppose. Freshstart is an admin who hasn't been seen in 3 months. Maybe to get more admins, we should reopen his candidacy? Blockinblox 14:47, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I agree, it seems a good idea, would you mind asking the user if he/she is still willing to help? --M7 14:50, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Done. Nominated for adminship.-- Tdxiang Adminship 02:52, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
    • One problem: No bureaucrats here. We have to ask a steward to op him.-- Tdxiang 03:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
      • We're now electing new bureaucrats for the simplewiki. Archer7 and Blockinblox agreed to participate. Also, Netoholic seems to be questioned on wether to keep his bureaucrats status or not. Just hope no "philosphical disscusiion" comes around. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 10:12, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

October 2006

  • Tangotango had Rfa and new user Geeksluvpi voted. The latter was mistaken for a sockpuppet. After a steward's statement, both parties concerned have been officially cleared of misconduct through sockpuppetery.-- Tdxiang @ 02:21, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Nominator of Rfa also unblocked.-- Tdxiang @ 03:51, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I think Tangotango should be now a sysop since all of his votes are supports, if Netoholic dosen't wanna do it, call Simonmayer or Brion VIBBER for help. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 06:36, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Tangotango's adminship has already been discussed on Meta, it'll be sorted soon. Archer7 - talk 17:50, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Promoted, Tangotango is now an administrator.-- Tdxiang Adminship 03:28, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
See his request here.
