Kurt Schmied
Kurt Schmied (born June 14, 1926 in Vienna; † December 9, 2007 in Vienna) was an Austrian football player. He played as goalkeeper for three teams from Vienna (Wiener Sport-Club, First Vienna FC, FK Austria Wien). With Vienna, the goalkeeper became Austrian champion in 1955. He took part in two world championships with the national team.

Career
He began his career at SC Helfort Wien. In August 1947 he moved to the first division club Wiener Sport-Club. He immediately established himself as regular goalkeeper. With Vienna he was in first place in the table at the end of the 1954/55 championship, tied on points with his former club Wiener Sport-Club. The highlight of the championship was the 5-0 victory over last year's winners Rapid. He remained active at Vienna, even after a serious meniscus injury in 1962. After his supposed career end in 1965, the almost 40-year-old goalkeeper was signed by FK Austria Wien for another year, where he became second goalie behind Arkoc Özcan.
International
Due to an injury to Walter Zeman, he also had the chance to present himself in the national team in time for the 1954 World Cup. He debuted on 9 May 1954 versus Wales. [1] Just a month later, he was the starting goalkeeper at the World Cup in Switzerland. The semi-final - without Kurt Schmied- was lost 6-1 to Germany, but he was back in goal in the 3-1 win over reigning world champions Uruguay in the game for third place.
He also was goalkeeper at the 1958 FIFA World Cup in Sweden. His last match was on 10 December 1961 in a 2-1 win away versus Italy.[2]
