Laurie Salas

Dame Margaret Laurence "Laurie" Salas (née Hay, 8 February 1922 – 26 January 2017) was a New Zealand women's rights and peace activist. She was born in Wellington, New Zealand.[1]

Salas was involved with the Playcentre movement, and became that organisation's first representative on the National Council of Women. Salas was a New Zealand committee member for the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific, and she was also an honorary vice president of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs.[1] In the 1982 Queen's Birthday Honours Salas was appointed a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for community service.[2]

Salas died on 26 January 2017 in Kaori, New Zealand, aged 94.[3]
