Leopold Mozart

Johann Georg Leopold Mozart (November 14, 1719 – May 28, 1787; pronounced MOHT-sart) was a composer, music teacher and violinist. He was the father and teacher of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He was born in Augsburg, son of Johann Georg Mozart (1679–1736), a bookbinder, and his second wife Anna Maria Sulzer (1696–1766).

Painting commissioned by Leopold Mozart. Mozart is six years old. Both children are in court costumes given to them in 1762 at the Imperial Court in Vienna. The painter executed these by first painting the surroundings and clothing, and only then having the children pose.
