Leopold Resch

Leopold Resch (11 October 1900 - 18 January 1971) was an Austrian football player. He played as midfielder for SC Wacker Wien and the Austrian national football team.

Career

Resch began his football career at Wacker in 1913 at the age of thirteen. Apart from a brief interlude with Meidlinger Sportfreunde, he remained loyal to them throughout his entire career. From 1917 on he played in his favorite position of center half for Wacker until 1929. The greatest success was reaching the cup final in 1923.

International career

Resch played 16 matches for the Austrian national football team. He debuted on 15 January 1922 in a 3-3 away match versus Italy. His last match was on 20 March 1927 in a 1-2 home loss versus Czechoslowakia.

After his football career

Poldl Resch worked professionally in his father's trucking company. After his football career he owned a Café (Café Resch) on Schönbrunner Straße in Meidling. He found the time to continue working at Wacker. He was both manager and board member and also coach of the club until 1937. During the war he worked in Vienna with the Luftwaffen SV around 1940. After the war he coached the team from St. Marienkirchen/Schärding
