Mr. Deeds Goes to Town is a 1936 American romantic comedy drama movie directed by Frank Capra and was based on the 1935 short story Opera Hat by Clarence Budington Kelland. It stars Gary Cooper, Jean Arthur, George Bancroft, Lionel Stander, Douglass Dumbrille, John Wray, Ruth Donnelly and was distributed by Columbia Pictures. It was nominated for 5 Oscars and won an Academy Award in 1937 and was spun off into a TV series in 1969 and remade in 2002.
