NEWS-on-Tour is a German regional news platform based in Bergneustadt, located in the Oberbergischer Kreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia. The website primarily focuses on reporting local and regional news in the Oberberg region and surrounding areas. It is operated by Christian Sasse, who is also the founder and editor-in-chief. History

The origins of NEWS-on-Tour date back to the NEWS-Oberberg project, which was launched on 1 March 2000 by Christian Sasse, Sven Oliver Rüche, and Martin Gude. Within three months of its inception, Sasse assumed full responsibility for the project and continued its development independently. [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] [25]

Initially, the platform functioned as a photo-based party and event magazine, documenting nightlife and social events in areas such as the Oberberg district, Cologne, Bad Hönningen, and Mallorca (Ballermann). [26] [27] [28] [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] [34] [35] [36]

In the mid-2000s, the scope of coverage expanded through the creation of several region-specific sub-portals, including NEWS-Sauerland, NEWS-MK (Märkischer Kreis), NEWS-Siegerland, NEWS-RSK (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis), NEWS-Koeln, NEWS-Mallorca, NEWS-Bulgaria, NEWS-Ibiza, NEWS-Hamburg, NEWS-Frankfurt, NEWS-Hannover, NEWS-Stuttgart, NEWS-Dresden, NEWS-Leipzig, and NEWS-Nuernberg. These sub-sites were eventually merged into a centralized archive on the main platform under the consolidated brand NEWS-on-Tour. The original domains now redirect to corresponding archive sections on the main website. [37]

In 2006, NEWS-on-Tour was officially launched as a nationwide media network. Around this time, the site transitioned from manually updated HTML pages to a content management system, facilitating more efficient content publication and archiving.

As of June 2025, the platform's digital archive contains over 18,056 published articles.

Digital Presence

NEWS-on-Tour maintains a multi-platform digital presence. Its official YouTube channel was launched on 17 August 2006. As of 20 June 2025, the channel features 4,768 videos, has 17,433 subscribers, and has accumulated over 28 million total views. Some videos have been removed due to copyright-related issues, particularly concerning music licensing.

On Facebook, the official page has received 32,315 likes. The platform also engages with audiences through other social media channels including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, and LinkedIn.

Editor-in-Chief

Christian Sasse (born 6 July 1975 in Bergneustadt) is a German media entrepreneur, photographer, and the managing director of NEWS-on-Tour. In addition to his work in journalism, Sasse is active in the fields of video production, online marketing, and artificial intelligence. Outside his professional activities, he plays table tennis at a semi-professional level.
