Nautilus Book Awards
Nautilus Book Awards is a prize for books about social and environmental justice. It started in the United States in 1998. The award is to recognize books that "make a difference and inspire."[1] The award is named for the nautilus shell, as a symbol of wisdom and growth.[2]
Selection
There is usually one gold award and one or more silver awards each year. The prizes span 24 adult categories and 4 children’s/young adult categories. Prize money is also awarded.[3]
There are three steps involved in selecting Nautilus Book Award winners. Editors, professors, writers, librarians, publishers, schoolteachers, and bookstore owners all participate in the judging process. Awards require agreement across all three levels, and in some years no award may be given if the judges cannot reach consensus. A book may also receive more than one award.[4]
