Nebia Mehimda

Nebia Mehimda (born 31 July 1985) is an Algerian wheelchair basketball player (3.0 wheelchair basketball classification). She is a member of the Algeria women's national wheelchair basketball team. She was flag bearer at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.[1]

Life

Born in Oran in 1985, Mehimda was not impaired from birth. After the president of the Ibtissama club for wheelchair basketball in Oran, asked her to become a member, Semati started with wheelchair basketball in 2007 when she was 21 years old.

She made her debut for the national team at the 2015 African Championships against South Africa. She won with the team three consecutive African Championships in a row. She was a member of the national team at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro,[2] that was the first time an African national competed in wheelchair basketball at the Paralympic Games. At the end of 2016 the Ibtissama team, was dissolved, and she started training a men's team at the Abtal Temouchent club. In 2018 she was part of the Algerian team at the 2018 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship, that was for the first time an African nation competed at a World Wheelchair Basketball Championship. [3] In 2021 she played at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.[4][5] She competed at the 2022 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships.
