Nintendo Research & Development 1, also known as Nintendo R&D1, was a division of Nintendo. They were responsible for the Metroid series and the WarioWare series, among others.

The Virtual Boy, developed by R&D1, emulates 3-D visuals by use of individual red monochrome displays for each eye. It was considered a commercial failure.
