Northern Rail is a British train operating company. It has run local passenger services in Northern England since December 2004. Northern Rail's owner was Serco and Abellio. They run 287 trains to 529 stations. They own 456 of those stations.
In 2016, Serco and Abellio lost the franchise to Arriva, who promised to buy new trains.[2]
